I am 99.99999% sure that part of Alisdair’s issues over the past few weeks are due to the big changes he’s endured: a long roadtrip, relatives in from out of town, etc. etc. As we get back to our routine he is settling down, and I am learning to be a bit firmer and stick to the routine (and even when I feel like I’m too tired to do it, it’s usually better to just deal with it.)
Today I was excited when I was driving home from errands and saw that it was just about 11am. Perfect, I thought. We’ll get home, have lunch, Alisdair can watch his signing video, and then we’ll have naptime!
When I pulled into the garage I looked in the backseat and Alisdair was fast asleep. He had been awake five minutes ago when we left the bank, and he hadn’t eaten since 7:30, so I decided to wake him up for lunch, and he was fine. He ate well, watched his video (and I got to vacuum the whole upstairs while he did with Éamon in the Moby wrap), and then, as usual, I lay down with the boys so we could all nap.
Two hours later and Alisdair had yet to fall asleep. He didn’t even look tired. So when Éamon woke up from his nap, that was that. Bahhhhhh. Who knew that falling asleep for less than five minutes in the car would prevent naptime from happening at all?!
Very helpfully, just as I was sitting down to write this post at work, Ian emails me this picture from the dinner table:
Tonight is going to be interesting…
